Summer Cycling Events 2008

Rochdale Canal Festival.(19-26 July 2008)
After last years national award winning festival Try-Cycles are proud to present even more activities for the 2008 event
 
Monday 21st July. Tesco, Failsworth 11.00-3.30:
Guided bike ride; Registration from 11.00 with the ride setting off at 12.00 noon returning at 3.30ish (ride route starts Tesco, Failsworth heading towards Rochdale and back)
 
Thursday 24th. 11.00-3.30 .Rose of Lancaster pub Chadderton:
Guided cycle ride, Dr bike session. The cycle ride will start at 12.30 and will return at approx 3.30 (Chadderton to Manchester and back)
 
Saturday 26st All day Tesco, Failsworth:
Guided cycle rides, Dr Bike sessions, Display/ Demo team.

Oldham Carnival 2008
The Oldham Carnival was brilliant this year. with a loads of events going on, and many activities to get involved in.
Try-Cycles were proud to be a part of the proceedings, providing mountain bike stunts, cycle training and also as part of the parade, with the Fitton Hill Youth Group and Northwest Riders.
The carnival ran on the 28th and 29th of June, and was enjoyed by thousands of members of the public, as well as by those participating in shows and events.

Fitton Hill Youth Club Stencil Spray Art.
On Wednesday 11th Jun, Try-Cycles held a Stencil Art Workshop for the children of Fitton Youth Club on the local skate park. Held at Fitton Hill Youth Club the children used a range of stencils to decorate their BMX/skate park.
The second Stencil Art session on Wednesday 25th June finished off the work that Fitton Hill Youth Club began by decorating ramps in the BMX/skate park using stencil designs.

Dovestones BBQ Ride.
Thursday 19th June saw a joint effort to support the development of more off road trails, provided by Try-Cycles Ltd, The Saddleworth Cyclery and Oldham Countryside Service. Sponsored by OMBC and Unity Partnersip. The guided technical mountain bike ride used trails above Dovestones reservoir, finishing with a BBQ and refreshments.
New bikes and kit were on display from The Cyclery.

Health Rides
On Saturday 14th June and Saturday 21st June
Try-Cycles worked with Cycle Club Oldham to provide a guided health ride.The trail ride started from Alexandra Park using Oldhams' off road cycle network. Bikes and helmets were available to hire, and the participants enjoyed a quality ride.

Fitton Hill Youth Club cycle events.
Monday 16th June saw a Dr. Bike Session held at Fitton Hill Youth Club. Basic safety checks and fixes were provided to ensure that cycles were safe to ride. This service was Free to members of the public.
 
On Tuesday 17th June, Try-Cycles provided a Treasure Trail. An off road ride to a local country park following the normal theme but on cycles. All the children involved were presented with a gift pack for the treasure trail.

Tameside Cycle Tour
The Tameside Cycle Tour event ran on Sunday 11th May from Camp Streetcar park in Ashton town centre.
The day was a great success with over 40 riders taking part in the event. We would like to thank riders from Mossley Cycle Club and all members of the public who took part to make this a great day for all concerned!
Participants enjoyed a leisurly ride to Park Bridge Visitor Centre in beautiful sunshine where they stopped for refreshments before returning via National Cycle Network Route 66. Again we would like to thank TMBC for sponsoring the event and everyone who supported or took part.
Without you it could not happen.

Tameside Cycle Tour 2008 flyer

Cycling Santas - Oldhams Connect2 Bid
Try-Cycles were proud to team up with OMBC and Oldham CTC to gain support for local bids for the Sustrans scheme.
Try-Cycles staff along with other volunteers from partner agencies donned Santa Claus attire to entertain the children from High Crompton Primary School.
Santa also made an appearance with his stunt riding antics on display Oldham Town Center.

Tameside Tour 2007
On Sunday 8th July 2007 Try-Cycles were proud to be involved in the Tameside Tour, Working in conjunction with Tameside MBC and the Cycle-ops Adventure youth service team the day consisted of 2 guided cycle rides departing from Richmond park. The first was a relatively easy family ride with the second a more challenging twenty mile ride for those with a more adventurous nature. Music and entertainment was provided by Cycle-ops and the Try-Cycles team, with skills and games sessions open to the public with the inclusion of the Try-Cycles mountain bike display team making the day a great sucess.
Thanks to all of you who got down to Richmond park, joined in the fun and supported cycling in Tameside.

Open day at Crompton Moor
On 27th June Try-Cycles took part in an open day at Crompton Moor to promote cycling and walking in the area. The Mayor and councillors from OMBC were in attendance as well as the local media (Oldham Chronicle and Rochdale Observer) who met with children from Buckstones Primary School who were returning from a walk on the moor. Also present were members of Northwest Riders mountain bike club along with Try-Cycles who gave a display of jumps and skills, which were enjoyed by all , despite the weather, which could not ruin the day.
Try-Cycles would like to thank everyone involved in making the day worthwhile. Pictures to follow soon.

Oldham Carnival 2007
Try-Cycles and Northwest Riders worked together to be part of the Oldham Carnival parade on the 23rd of June and it was a great success, with a brilliant atmosphere generated, and good fun for everyone who took part.
All the floats and groups involved provided a spectacular display for the public.
On Sunday 24th we were also proud to be part of the carnival celebrations held in Alexandra park, providing skills and games sessions which were enjoyed by members of the public, and an excellent display of tricks and jumps performed by a team of riders made up of Try-Cycles and Northwest Riders using mountain bikes, and some skilled BMX tricksters. Pakistani Community Centre
On June 1st Try-Cycles, working in conjunction with Energize, were pleased to deliver a basic skills session to members of the Pakistani Community Centre. Using Alexandra park as a base, this proved to be a fun day for all involved, as you can see by the smiling faces
